I completely agree... I just don't know when and/or how are older OS's /
architectures retired?

If we shouldn't support antique Open SSL then we should make sure that the
Open SSL installed meets a minimum criteria (e.g. v1.0); otherwise, it will
give others a hard time trying to figure out why the contribs can't compile.
