seems simple to me.

1) A number isn't that big of a deal either way
(It does communicate some info, and using the numbering consistently
is broadly a good thing - but whichever way this decision goes, the
project will be broadly the same)
2) 1.2 is a pretty big jump from 1.1
3) The top three committers to 1.2 support the number change

I suggest calling it 2.0 as suggested and moving on to more important matters.
