I just remembered this mail, and want to write an answer:
IMO the new icon version is really nice and I would appreciate it if the new cone would be integrated for the next major version, for example.
When we do that, we should probably update all occurrences of the cone. In particular, I'm thinking of all the extension-specific icons in extras/package/macosx/Resources/icons. Do you have (or can create) updated graphics for these as well?
Also, I would like to try out the new application icon a little on my machine. So, could you send me the new VLC.icns file for mac? That would be great.
