It looks like this problem still exists in 2.1.4. I think the problem was introduced as part of the changes included in version 2.1.1 — 2.1.0 doesn’t show this problem.

It is possible to work around the problem, but only by disabling full-screen, manually dragging the window over to the screen you want to go full screen on, and then re-entering full screen. Even then, this is forgotten about as soon as video playback ends if your VLC control window is on a different screen. In that case, if you stop & start playback, it jumps back to the primary screen again.

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, this is the very first thing I tried.

Unsetting this option caused fullscreen mode to stop working entirely. It still shows “Fullscreen” as being enabled in the menu, but the video playback window does not go full screen when “native fullscreen” is disabled. It’s just a normal size window, and toggling full screen on & off has no effect.

Experimenting with this a bit more, I see the behavior changes depending on whether I quit & restart VLC after I turn off “native fullscreen”. In that case, it goes fullscreen on the proper monitor, but then I have a different problem. When it exits from playback and the control window comes back on up on my other monitor, the menu is missing on all screens, and switching applications and switching back doesn’t help. All I can do at that point is use a keyboard shortcut to exit and restart the app.

I should say that I’m doing all of this testing with “Show video within the main window” disabled. When I turn that option on, though, it doesn’t seem to change anything. I still see the same problem with the menu disappearing when “native fullscreen” is off, and with it being on the wrong monitor when it is on.

This is on an mid-2011 iMac running Mavericks (10.9.2).
