I´m not really surprised and that´s why I did not backport it to 2.2.

Unfortunately, we currently do not have a "safe" version of the swscale plugin 
in VLC to fallback to. One way or another, it just never worked properly since 
video orientation and decoder-level cropping were introduced :-(

The version in 2.2 does not crash but it causes picture corruption with some 
video outputs...
