Hi,

MPLv2 is explicitly compatible with GPLv2+ and LGPLv2.1+. I wouldn't recommend using the license for one's own code as it is a very weak copyleft. But there are no issues with using code under that license, *unless* GPL compatibility is explicitly excluded, of course. In that later case, it is basically unusable to the VLC project.
