The second version is very simple autoconf/autotools stuff.

The fact that *you* never have this problem doesn't mean noone has this 
problem. How do you think I ended up trying to find a solution ?

The solution I propose requires no installation, learning, messing with 
build scripts. It's obviously simpler.
