Hi, Esteemed member of the VLC community,
In light of this accusation, let me start by highlighting Fatih Uzunoğlu's
stellar contributions to our Code of Conduct violations and his absolutely
charming display of bad faith, which was the basis of the discussion he
highlights. Let's start with Fatih Uzunoğlu's comment that started this
all:
Commented by Fatih Uzunoğlu @fuzun · 2 weeks ago[1]
"It single-handedly caused at least 4 regressions, it deserves to be
nominated as the worst merge request since !3385 (merged)."
While I appreciate criticism, this statement is a clear violation of the
community's Code of Conduct, specifically point 2:
>Be careful with direct criticism:
>Focus on the possible improvements and do not make the issue a personal
one.
>You should, when possible, criticize in private, and praise publicly;
since most of our communications are public and people can be sensitive
about that.
Nominating a contribution as "the worst merge request" does little to
encourage productive dialogue and can easily be taken as an attempt to
demean other's contributions to the project. That's what I felt and wrote
in the subsequent replies to his inappropriate comment.
Now, about those "4 regressions"— let’s not get too dramatic. These were
minor and only affected a small UI element. The MR was tested to the best
of limited knowledge of the module and scope of the MR, given that Fatih
Uzunoğlu @fuzun himself handles most of this module. I would have mostly
likely caught them myself and fixed them — as I’ve done countless times
with my own MRs, and others. However I was away for a brief vacation just
after this MR got merged, and upon my return, I immediately opened MR 5940
to address these issues.
As for Fatih’s glorious solution to these minor regressions? He heroically
opened an MR to undo all of my work with his MR 5921 —naturally, without
any dialogue or input. This is a clear violation of point 5 of the CoC:
> Do not undo someone's else contribution (wiki edits, code reverts,
etc...) without asking first
But hey, who needs courtesy when you can have drama? When I tried to
have discussion on the best possible approach moving forward, he accused me
of "sabotage" [2]. Yes, sabotage, apparently, my humble efforts to engage
were akin to overthrowing an empire. How charming.
Another point to note here is that the original work and merge request in
question - MR 5864 and MR 5940 are required by the design of the interface
and will be back in sooner rather than later, we are just waiting on a
related discussion via video meeting that is scheduled for today itself.
Best Regards
Prince Gupta
