[vlc-devel] Feature Proposal: Clickable Words in Subtitles

Hello VLC developers,

I would like to propose a feature for VLC that could make subtitles more
useful for language learners.

The idea is to make individual words in subtitles clickable. When a user
clicks on an unfamiliar word, VLC could display a small popup showing its
meaning, translation, or pronunciation without requiring the user to pause
the video and search for the word separately.

For example:

Subtitle:
"I was reluctant to go there."

Clicking on "reluctant" could show:

Reluctant
Meaning: Unwilling or hesitant to do something.

The feature could be optional and enabled through:

Settings → Subtitles → Interactive Subtitles

Possible additional information could include:
- Translation
- Pronunciation
- Synonyms
- Example sentence

I believe this could be particularly useful for students and people
learning a new language through movies and videos.

I am interested in contributing to VLC and would like to know whether this
idea would be suitable for the project. If so, could you please point me
toward the relevant subtitle code or documentation to get started?

Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
Harshvardhansinh Parmar
