Fw: is this project alive?

daryl,
i don't really know, but let me take a stab at it. i agree that it sounds
like something isn't there in the kernel. dvd ioctls are in the kernel
versions 2.2.16 and up.
let me ask an obvious question -- when you recompiled the 2.4 kernel, did
you remember to make it your default kernel? are you sure you're running
the right kernel?
also, i don't know if this makes a difference, but is your System.map file
the correct one? it contains all exported symbols in kernel space;
normally, only klogd and a few select user space programs need it (like
dosemu), but i don't know much about programs like vlc or livid. maybe they
need a correct System.map too.
can you do an ls on /cdrom? can you mount it (see output of mount)?
just for fun, can you run fsck on hdd?
it really doesn't sound like a vlc/livid problem to me.
just a few thoughts. hope i didn't insult your intelligence by my lame
suggestions. :)
good luck!
