more on Xlib async error

More on my Xlib async error: I reverted back to XFree86 4.0.3 with the
default r128 driver, since 4.1.0 was acting flaky, and the situation is
exactly the same - half of the time using xvideo, I get the Xlib async
error and vlc segfaults, half the time it works fine. SDL always works
fine, and is clearly using xvideo, so that certainly is a good workaround,
but it's still something worth looking at. Any useful debugging info I can
give?
