This is one of the changes that have made it to the CVS since the last
release. Now vlc checks if your machine supports xvideo, and if not it will
default to the SDL (or X11 if you don't have SDL) plugin.

I can't really tell you anything about the fb video output plugin since I've
never used it. But I wouldn't be suprised if this plugin was broken...
You can try anyway (you have to enable the frame buffer support in you
kernel).
