trouble building vlc-0.2.82 from source

Complaints about g_atexit (used in intf_gtk.c and intf_gnome.c)
 already being defined in gutils.o of glib-1.2.10.

This happens with

 RH7.1 + latest errata
 ximian-latest for RH7.1
 kernel 2.4.9
 gcc-3.0-release (from FSF)

I will be on holiday for 2 weeks so don't hurry in replying :)
