No Sound.

List,

I have recently installed the lateest tarball and can get vlc tp compile, it 
runs fine, visually, but no audio. I'm running slackware 7 with a 2.2.19 
kernel, I have a Vodoo 3000 and a ESS 137x sound card. The sound seems to be 
working ok, I can play mp3's via xmms. Is there something I need to do during 
the configuration statge ?
