DVD->Mac->IEE1394->sony converter->TV, will vlc do this?

Not at the moment. But since vlc uses QuickTime for video output, adding
this shouldn't be too difficult. I think one would only need to change the
code which creates an DecompressionSequence to open the firewire channel
instead of a QuickDraw view.
