Very jittery video - any solutions?

These are the files I've installed.  Apparently I'm using VLC 0.2.91 with
SDL 1.2.3...

vlc-0.2.91.tar.gz
libdvdread-0.9.2.tar.gz
sdl-1.2.3.tar.gz

What compiler options did you use with ./configure ??
