VLC not playing on BeOS

Does anybody know why VLC just hangs in BeOS when I select my DVD 
drive?  This has been happening for some time now.  I have updated as 
recently as yesterday, but when I start the program, and select my DVD 
drive from the menu, it does nothing at all.  The same happens if I 
select a file, or when I drag a file onto the player.  It used to 
play!  What happened?
