Can't Play DVD, any ideas?

I get the same error using the debian package, or using
the version I compiled myself:

The DVD drive is IDE, but I am using it via SCSI emulation (/dev/sr1);

I can listen to the audio from the DVD, it just breaks when I actually
want to see the video (with SDL or with xvideo).

Have you any suggestions? Is there any other useful information
I could provide. I tried using gdb on it, but that didn't seem
to produce anythnig useful (it ends up just hanging).
