CSS encrypted DVDs

As far as I know, my copy of "eXistenZ" is CSS encrypted, since
vlc -v says something about key negotiation.
It runs fine, except at the very beginning, where it shows
the title sequence of the movie. For some reason, while it
shows it, the DVD drive stops, and a couple of seconds later
it starts again. The sound (music) seems to get slightly out of
sync then, but vlc gets it back in sync by speeding it up for a
few seconds which you can clearly hear because the
music suddenly has a higher pitch. After these few seconds,
everything is fine.
