Xlib: unexpected async reply

Something went wrong with the new vlc 0.2.91 release.
In almost all cases vlc crashes with the error message
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x....)!
where .... are varying numbers such as 1912 1838 17e5 etc.
That did not happen with the vlc 0.2.90 release, nor any other release
after 0.2.80. What went wrong?
I compiled 0.2.91 smoothly without problems on a SuSE 7.3 running kernel
2.4.10 and XFree 4.1.0 on a Pentium III. But I cannot watch any DVDs
anymore with the new release, since it almost always crashes immediately
after the DVD starts turning and the video window appears.
Using vlc -vvvv does not revela anything.

One good thing: In the very few cases where it runs, fullscreen is
working again properly, without cutting away the left and right border parts
of the image.

Hope it is only a minor easy to fix bug.
Michael
