VLC on OS X 10.1

I get the same error.
Before the "can't open device" error is reported, I get 
"libdvdcss: ioctl_SendChallenge" failed.
If I insert a call to perror after "ioctl_SendChallenge", it reports
"input/output error"

What error is supposed to be fixed in CVS now compared to 0.2.90?
