vlc playing dvd problems on debian

I have a DVD drive on both. On the Athlon, it is a similar situation as you
have, where I have both a DVD and a CD-RW. In my particular case, the DVD
is master on that bus and the CD-RW is slave. I will check to see if the
DVD drive light stays on. I know when I access the the drive using vlc, the
CD spins up.
