blank screen with sound

hi.

tried videolan under win98se but only got blank (black)
screen with sound.

dug the faqs, etc etc... couldn't find any info that
can help.

any pointers?

i've a pentium 166 (dated years back.. i know it's old,
but heck, it still works.. :) ), et6000 video card with
only (and unfortunately) 2mb of video ram, 64mb ram on
board, gravis ultrasound sound card (using wdm drivers),
and directx 8.0a.

is it because my hardware is prehistorically outdated?
