VideoLAN Client 0.3.1 libdvdcss snag

Guys,

I built vlc 0.3.1 on Linux 2.4.17 in just the same way as I built 0.3.0 
(which works), and Igot the following:


daddy at aldebaran:/usr/home/daddy/APPS/VLC/vlc-0.3.1 > gvlc --aout esd 
--aout_format 0 --rate 48000
VideoLAN Client - version 0.3.1_2002-04-19 Ourumov - (c) 1996-2002 VideoLAN

libdvdread: Can't open libdvdcss: libdvdcss.so.0: cannot open shared 
object file: No such file or directory.
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
input error: data loss, PES packet doesn't start with 0x000001
intf error: signal 2 received, exiting


Building with a statically linked libdvdcss produced similar messages.
Do I need a new libdvdread library or something?
