Video is garbled in Windows 2000/XP

Hmmm, could you try again vlc-0.2.92 to see if it still works? I would also 
like to be sure that It was really using the YUV overlay, could you check 
that you don't have the above error message but instead something like 
"successfully created YUV overlay" ?
