Problem w/ frame buffer video out in vlc 0.3.1

I'm running the matroxfb drivers in 2.4.18 w/ a G400/tv

--vout x11 works fine
--vout fb does not work on either fb0 or fb1. I get the attached complaints.

What am I missing from my config?

Thanks,

Steve
