pause during play dvd

hi,

i install the newest version of vlc (0.4.4) with css support. It plays
dvd very good, but during the play it hangs often between 200-500msec
and 8sec.So i patched my kernel 2.4.19 with the preemt patch and it is a
little bit better, but not perfect :-( (perfecter as xine and mplayer
;-) ..)

my system Gentoo 2.4.19, AMD 1700XP, Nvidia GF2 GTS.

can anybody help?
