Compiled 0.2.92 for Mac OS X

I was wondering whether the compiled OS X vlc app is working at all, 
no version I tried until now was able to open vob or mpeg-2 files 
over the GUI (nothing happens when selecting a file in the file 
dialog) and there was no player window. Only when I once tried some 
older version over the shell it was working more or less. Is it so 
hard to get the GUI controls working? Or am I doing something wrong?
