playing encrypted dvd

when i run the vlc --vout xvideo dvd:/dev/dvd at 1,1 on a us encrypted dvd it
returns:
dvd error: partition 0 not found
dvd error: fatal failure in ifo
module error: requested access module 'dvd' unavailable
input error: no suitable access plug-in for dvd:/dev/dvd at 1,1
could you tell me the syntax for giving you the vlc logfile...
i can not find it...
