dvd-encryption -- poor performance

the dvd drive in my thinkpad a30 evidently has a problem with dvdcss...
i installed a pcmcia toshiba dvd...it works like it should.
my note book has a ati mobility agp video card with 16 mb memory...
i understand this is considered low performance...
my video is slightly choppy...audio is fluid...
is there anything i can do to tweak the performance...i do not think it will take much...
this notebook has 128 mb ram and 1.0gh intel piii chip...
the sound card is an intel 810
