probem with playing over lan..

hello..

i'm guite new in vlc/vls, to maybe this question is stupid...

i'm opening stream from net: it shows after pressing ok:
udpstr://selected_ip..

it doesn't matter, if host with this ip have started streaming.
i can press: play, there is no new window or something like this, just a
info (on console) playing at normal rate.....but where it is playing?

i have newest vlc (updated with cls, instaled from sources, gtk+ interface
on kde2+debian), i386 arch...

vlc plays files properly (f.eg. simple mpeg-1)
