Error when choosing DVD device (vlc 0.2.92)

When starting vlc using:
./vlc -vvvvv &
vlc starts without errors. When I click on "Disc" from the menu to open
a DVD, I get the following error:
intf: added `dvd:/dev/dvd' to playlist
input: playlist item `dvd:/dev/dvd'
module: dummy has score 1
module: vcd has score 5
module: dvd has score 100
module: ts has score 2
module: ps has score 10
module: es has score 5
module: locking module `dvd'
input: dvd=/dev/dvd raw=
thread info: 1026 (input) has been created ((null):0)
UDF: Partition 0 not found
dvd error: fatal failure in ifo
module: unlocking module `dvd'
I get the same error if I try changing the device to /dev/hdc (my
DVD/CDrom drive). The error suggests that vlc can't read the disc or
find a partition on the disc? I can play CDs and play DVDs under Windows
2000 so I think the drive is OK.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm running RH
7.2 with Ximian Gnome 1.4.
Many Thanks,
Eric
