Eventually I assigned my drive a region.  I didn't want to.  VLC will 
now play DVDs.  But it also crashes often.  I have yet to find out if 
it will play DVDs from different REGIONS without me having to reassign 
the region coding of my drive.  I will let the list know.  If it 
doesn't, I don't see the advantage of it over the DVD player that apple 
bundle with the basic OS.

(OS 10.2.2, TiBook 800, 512 RAM, Combo drive)
