> Actually I'm not sure this is the same problem. Your problem here seems to be that you are dropping network packets. It might simply be because your connection is too slow or maybe vlc is misbehaving itself and sending bursts of data over the network.

I tried that using a WLAN connection, but I only saw about 85 kb/s of
data when watching the video, so the bandwidth shouldn't be a problem -
if there are no extreme bursts.
Watching a DivX using NFS isn't a problem too.

Even with heavy bursts mp3 playback shouldn't be a problem.
