[vlc] Debian upgrading...???

I now have vlc 0.5.1 on my debian system, and would like to upgrade too
0.5.2, but I seem to be having a problem in doing so...
I downloaded all of the 0.5.2.debs into a tmp directory yet when I run
dpkg -i filename for each of the files I get this:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of gnome-vlc:
version of vlc on system is 0.5.1-0woody.1...

Now if I use the apt-get layout in my sources.list it does not upgrade
to the latest version...

So is there something I am missing here, can someone explain to me the
easiest way to upgrade to the latest version of VLC on a Debian system...???

Thanks for any help anyone can offer... ;-)

Larry
