Hi,
I've had this same issue, as I have a wide screen TV.
I downloaded as many "media players" as I could find - I found one that does the job nicely.
Try mplayer classic, it allows you to change the aspect ratio - there's also a setting for 16:9 aspect.
Download from http://www.gabest.org/
Enjoy.
The number of widescreen TV/Projectors is on the increase.
I wonder if/when this feature will get be added to VLC.

Subject: [vlc] 4:3 VCDs on 16:9 display without black bars
Hi all!
I wanted to play my (S)VCDs on my powerbook G4 with 16:9 display
without black bars for a long time. But I still haven't figuerd out how
to! Can you help me? I have several VCDs as .bin files or burned in 4:3
aspect ratio, but these have black bars on top and bottom because there
are actually 16:9 movies in the VCDs. When I just play these files, the
width of my 16:9 display is not used in total, because vlc doesn't cut
of the black bars on top and bottom. This results in black bars on the
top, on the bottom and even on the left and rights side of my display.
So what can I do? Can you help me? Already tried crop at video filter
module, but couldn't figure out how to get this to work. (vlc 0.5.3 on
Mac OS X)
Thanks a lot,
Bob
