[vlc] Saving transcoded file locally

Hi,

I'm playing a DVD with VLC and in the Output Methods,
I select File and provide a file name.  In Transcoding
options I select mp4v, and mpga codes.

However, there is no file created at the location I
specify.  How do I capture transcoded output to a
local file without streaming it?

I'm using VLC on windows 2000.  Manipulating VLC via
gui.

BTW, any pointers on getting VLC to capture webcam
output would be great.
