This is definitely possible, but keep in mind that real time transcoding
can be quite power consuming, and  that an iPAQ would certainly not have
enough power to decode anything else than MPEG1...

Well, everything should  be documented in the VideoLAN howto  and in the
VLC user guide, on

Look for the transcoding function.
