Since vlc is both a server and a client, it's the only thing required,
depending if he doesn't need vls's features.

The situation with vlc on Windows is now very nice - one click and you have
vlc installed and running beautifully.

It would be very nice to have a static version of vlc for all the Unix-like
platforms. Yeah, disk space wasted, but one click, and it's installed.
I haven't tried the RPM's in a while, but they used to fail miserably for
me. Some of the dependencies were not always trivial to compile as
well, though most were.

In short, it would be useful to have self-contained versions for each
supported platform, docs included as well. (vlc has a Web server
included, why not html docs as part of it :)

Regarding the original request, does he really need BeOS and other odd
versions?
What is he really trying to do? VLC can do a number of things, but
it probably requires a management system/approach to be useful.
(If the users were comfortable figuring out the insides, he probably
wouldn't
be making this request to begin with, though it might be completely a time
issue)

Cheers,
Bill
