VLC 0.7.2 uses OpenGL rendering now, which might explain your problem. Try
switching to the old Quartz mode in Preferences -> Modules -> Interface ->
Video mode

I'm a French guy from Nantes, and I'm going to try to report a kind of bug
on vlc 0.7.2.

Please excuse my aproximative English.

First, my computer is a Powermac G4 800 Mhz with 1Giga ram. It's running
under OS X.2.6.
It is equiped with a PCI card for analog Video Input and Output, the miro
motion DC 30.
Fortunately, some Italian guys have developed a driver for this "old" but
very good card and OS X.
They have done a good job (like you with vlc) and this driver called DC30
Xact driver works very well.

I have the version 1.5.2 of the DC30 Xact driver and it was working very
well with vlc 0.7.1a.
Then I was able to play a DVD or a DIVX for example with vlc, and a video
cable from the DC 30 card to my TV allowed me to watch the movie on my TV,
and not only on the computer screen.

But with vlc 0.7.2, which seems to be the most recent, I have no picture on
my TV, and it is not a matérial problem because I have tried many different
solutions.

So, maybe you already now this problem and then you could help me...
In anycase, it would be very nice if you could answer me.
