Hello,
the Matroska file format (.mkv) is currently supported, as you may can 
see on the VLC-Features-page, but not necessarily all codecs which can 
be used in it. That are especially Real Video and Real Audio. We cannot 
support these at present, since there is no open source decoder 
available for them. You can find more information on this by browsing 
our forums.
