[vlc] no sound

Yesterday I set up a new Mac-OS X configuration, and even though I 
still can play the DVDs (region 1)  yet there is no sound and I get the 
following message:

"coreaudio: failed to set buffer size: [nope]"

The configuration I use is:

  Machine Model:	Power Mac G5
   CPU Type:	PowerPC 970  (2.2)
   Number Of CPUs:	2
   CPU Speed:	1.8 GHz
   L2 Cache (per CPU):	512 KB
   Memory:	1.5 GB
   Bus Speed:	900 MHz
   Boot ROM Version:	5.1.5f0

I tried VLC 0.6.2 and VLC 0.7.1a and VLC 0.7.2-test1 with no succeed. 
Moreover it blocks for hours the whole sound system of the computer

Is there any way to help on this problem?
