[vlc] libhal (and dbus) with vlc

If I attempt to build vlc with libhal installed, then it appears the 
dbus also becomes a dependency (which is fine).  But, now when I start 
vlc, I get an error saying that vlc can not connect to the dbus service. 
  Is there some kind of special dbus configuration required for vlc?  If 
not, is there a problem with dbus and vlc?  Is this required?  If I 
remove libhal from my system and then build vlc, I dont get the dbus 
errors when vlc starts up any longer.
