[vlc] ffmpeg configuration

Hi,
I'm streaming TV over wifi using VLC. The reception is very choppy. When I enquired earlier on the mailing list, I was informed that configuring the access point to stream multicast same as unicast may work. U nfortunately, we have very basic access points and such configuration is not possible.
I want to ask if there is any way that the ffmpeg codec in VLC can be configured to make the stream more error resilient. For example by increasing the number of I frames etc.
