[vlc] How do I get the full experience of AC3 - Sound and vlc?

Hello:
Just yesterday I wanted to watch a movie with AC3 coded sound. I have the
AC-3 filter v 1.02a test 3 and vlc v0.8.1 installed. How do I get vlc to
playback the AC-3 coded sound information?
