[vlc] videolan media player

hello i downloaded your videolan media player to watch the movies that i 
have downloaded but the only thing is i cannot seem to get a screen to 
appear to veiw my movies all that appears is a small controll panel with the 
play,stop,pause etc.could you please guide me on how i work this media 
player to veiw my movies. i would be so grateful thank you
