I guess the lacking "," between 384 and ab is a typo in you mail ?

Please check if the recording device is set to line in in the
proprieties of your soundcard, and if recoding level is high enough. If
that doesn't work, please try the --v4l-samplerate 44100 (or 48000)
option.

Please give us the complete output of vlc if that doesn't work.
