Subject: [vlc] Usage of Videolan client and royalties related to MPEG-2
patents
Dear sir,
We would like to use your videolan client in a end to end project over a
MAN.
We noted that the software itself is a free software but what about its
usage for decoding MPEG-2 TS streams ?
I found on the Mpeg La site the following statement :
(1) For MPEG-2 decoding products in hardware or software (such as those
found in set-top boxes, DVD players and computers equipped with MPEG-2
decode units), the royalty is US $2.50 from January 1, 2002 and $4.00/unit
before January 1, 2002. (Sections 2.2 and 3.1.1).
How do you manage these royalties ?
Best regards
Pascal Jezequel
