[vlc] Lost VLC interface

Yes, it works fine, but I have no interface. I am unable to control the volume, etc. etc. I was experimenting with the preferences and changed the skin. Ever since then, I have had this problem. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling, but no change. When playing a movie, in parentheses on top of its window, it says (hardware YUV overlay DirectX output). Tried searching your online manual, but seems very complicated to me. Can you help me with this problem so I can regain control of VLC?
