[vlc] Why my VLC is in the console mode?

Dear Sir,

I had follow the steps of installing vlc in the document (VLC Play-Howto), and install the GTK and QT.
But the vlc is always in the console mode and I cannot play video using windows GUI after the installing.

Did I do something wrong or forget something?
Could somebody help me solving the problem?

My OS is Linux Red Hat 9.0

Here is my steps

rpm -U gtk+-1.2.10-25.i386.rpm --nodeps
rpm -U qt-3.1.1-6.src.rpm --nodeps
rpm -U videolan-client-0.8.1-1.0.rh9.rf.i386.rpm --nodeps
